Child Protection and Wellbeing
The safety and wellbeing of young and vulnerable people is everyone’s responsibility. Cupar Colts operates in compliance with the requirements and guidance for child protection of the Scottish FA, Scottish Youth Football Association (SYFA) and local leagues and associations.
If you have any immediate concerns about the safety of a child, please call the police on 999 in line with SYFA guidance.
Policy
Further Information and guidance on child protection is provided by the SYFA here.
In line with SYFA expectations, all those associated with the club will act to ensure we are:
INCLUSIVE
Football is for everyone, irrespective of background. We celebrate what makes us unique and embrace our differences. We create a culture where rights are respected and everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
APPROACHABLE
We are visible, accessible, open and caring. We build respectful and supportive relationships, listening to children’s voices, and championing their views in everything we do.
EMPOWERING
We are forward facing and strive to be the best for children and young people. We are brave, challenging ourselves and others to continually strive for the best outcomes for children and young people. We encourage and support children and young people to express their views.
ACCOUNTABLE
We accept responsibility and take ownership of the wellbeing and protection of children in our game. Our collective leadership calls upon integrity, consistency and confidence in our everyday behaviours.
Volunteering with the club
All volunteers (including parents) involved in coaching or helping with teams associated with Cupar Colts must complete appropriate PVG checks. Registering as an official (e.g. volunteer coach or helper) with the club will enable the Club’s Child Protection Officer to initiate a PVG check through the SYFA.
Prospective volunteers must register with the club. The relevant club official (e.g. coach of the relevant team, club secretary) will pass on details to the Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer who will arrange for a PVG to be undertaken.
In addition, all club officials must complete the SYFA online e-learning module “Children’s Wellbeing in Football”.
Raising Concerns
If a coach, helper, child, parent or observer has questions or concerns about the wellbeing or safety of players, conduct of officials or others associated with training and games, they can raise these with the Club’s Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer.
Issues raised will be managed in line with the Club’s Child Wellbeing and Protection Policy, and follow the guidance and procedures set out by SYFA here.
Remember, if you are concerned about the immediate safety of the child or young person:
Take action to ensure the child’s immediate safety.
Pass the information immediately to the police and seek their advice.
Report the concern to the Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer, advising that the matter has been reported to the police.
